Top Tips | Best Way to Make Money Online in 2013

People ask me all the time. How do you make money online. Do you go for Pay per Click type of things, or do you go for affiliate marketing. There is also the alternative of just blogging and putting some of that Google AdSense to get some money. There are many sources, but here’s what I think is the best way to make money online.

List Building.

Yes, list building. You might not make the money immediately, and the process will be long and difficult, but you’ve gotta start somewhere. But once you got a list that is responsive setup (and relatively big in size), you’re set for life. You will have that loyal following that likes what you do. That is interested in what you are doing, and will buy your stuff.

Unlike with search engine optimisation, this is sustainable. You ain’t going to have a new update such as ‘panda’ or some other inane animal name coming in and severely affecting the number of searches coming into your website. I think its not worth it if you’re going to waste so much time and money on optimisation when Google are so fickle. There isn’t a point.

A list gets you places.

Think newsletter service. Provide people with something that people want to know about. I’ve always said that people always want more information – hence the boom in e-books, and such. People want to keep learning. Many niches, I’ll just mention a few right here and I’ll pen another article about top niches in 2013.

I think the top one of course is “how to make money online”. After all, you are reading this article! I think the thing about that niche is that in essence it is teaching you how to copy their method – this being just to use that tagline of “how to make money online”, and because you bought it, you know it works. Hence of course you’re going to use their method.

Think your own product though. Its better to gain 100% revenue then just a cut for your hard work.

What I’m saying is that set up your list first. Then you can move on to bigger things.

Stage 5, Part 2: Choosing Your Ad Network

I talked about banner advertising in the previous posts, so here I’ll provide more depth into the best advertising networks around, and what you can make money with.

Banner Advertising

Google AdSense

Google AdSense is perhaps one of the first few ad networks that will pop up in essentially everyone’s minds when thinking about top ad networks. Realistically, if you get past their long list of terms and conditions, you are in a position to make a decent amount of money with Google AdSense, but realistically, you would want a decent amount of traffic if you wanna put AdSense up.

The reason is because when I had traffic of around 200 a day, I only managed something in the region of US$5 a month. A really small amount. I reckon a better tactic would be to build up more traffic first – as you might chase some away with adverts before adding ads to your website.

Google AdSense provides for most of the usual ad sizes, including the classic 300×250 along with your vertical and horizontal skyscrapers. Reliable and perhaps one of the better paying.

(Note: This isn’t proven, but I recommend having Google analytics for your blog before submission. It increases your chances of getting into the network immensely)

Get Adsense Here:

In AdBrite you get quick admission into the network, although you sacrifice professionalism in the adverts. They usually come in odd colour schemes and they generally look pretty odd. You get quite a bit (perhaps a bit higher if you talk about impressions along than Adsense) of money for running the ads on your website.

It is one of the better few ad networks out there in terms of value, but as I said, you do sacrifice that professionalism in the layout of your blog. You can sell ads directly from your website as well, that being pretty interesting.

Get Adbrite Here:

A really competitive advertising company. Provides you everything you really need for the pros of advertising. It is one of the few that allows you to accept and reject the advertisements that you are going to see on your site, and the support on the site is great as well.

Personally, I think that the advertisements yield too little money, but it is indeed a worthy sacrifice to make to get features such has having their great support along with the huge amount of customizable options they have on offer. It is one that you guys should definitely try, as the benefits that come with BlogAds are immense.

Get BlogAds Here:

In Text Advertising

Now, here comes a whole bit of explaining on my part. In text advertising means that these adverts will pop up (not exactly like a pop-up, but it will open this kinda mini browser showing an ad related to the keyword) and then you earn money for the impressions and clicks it gets.

I guess it does make sense and it does bring your readers to adverts that are actually really contextual in some cases. InfoLinks provides a good deal for your hard work, and it is one that looks pretty professional as well. If you wanna try one, go for InfoLinks.

The reason for me recommending this is because it is also great on mobile, something that will become very big in the very near future. Like InfoLinks, it does look pretty professional, with their pop-ups usually relevant with the wide selection of advertisements the network has.

So, be sure to try Kontera.

Stage 5, Part 1: Making Money With Your Blog

Well, I’ve talked about content, setting up your blog, how to get traffic and making Facebook friends amongst other things.

Now I’ll be talking about how to make money with your WordPress blog.

My first message about making money with your WordPress blog is that there are so many different permutations regarding choosing the best way to make money. Here in this post, I will talk about them in general, rather than going into where you should go for such services. I’ll go into that next time.

The Short Term Plan: Banner Advertising

You want money fast, and you want it on the go? Then banner advertising is the way for you to go. This is when you add a script you get from your ad network (it could be Google AdSense, AdBrite and so many others) and this would be the one that you don’t lose PageRank by.

This one all depends on how much traffic you receive, as this one has nothing to do with PageRank. The script counts the number of impressions and clicks the advert receives, and gives out payments according to that. Most pay through CPM (cost per 1000 impressions) or CPC (cost per click).

The Short Term Plan: Link Advertising

One that I have experience high amounts of revenue with is link advertising. This would be when you are payed to put a link up on your blog. The reason why this is valuable? This one is most often not for the traffic – although it does make a difference – link advertising is mostly there to take a bit of your PageRank and reward you for it.

Realistically, you shouldn’t be thinking about this if your PageRank isn’t 2 or higher, as noone would really want to work with you if that was the case (sorry for being harsh, but that is the case with the real world).

The Short Term Plan: Affiliate Marketing

What is this? This is promoting another person’s product, and then selling it. It’s a great tool, as realistically, people are going to buy a product that someone recommends, rather than a product that someone created, and is trying to get full profits for.

That is simply the way that the world works. Affiliate marketing is great if you have an audience ready to dig into their pockets and pay for products.

The Long Term Plan: Build A List

For a lot of WordPress beginners, this will be new ground that I am about to cover. This also requires a lot of patience and work for it to succeed. The way it works is that you get people to subscribe to your e-mail list. Perhaps even give them a free product to sign up.

Then, in the future, you would be able to use that list to sell products to them. List building is perhaps one of the most valued tools in the online world, and it is one that is reliable along with sustainable. With a list, you can’t go wrong, but with that saying comes a lot of hard work and effort.

The Long Term Plan: Make Your Own Product

eBooks are all the rage these days, and I encourage you guys to make one. This is a long term plan because quite simply, if it is a timeless eBook, you will be able to sell it over and over again. That will be how you can make money.

Furthermore, you can always use ClickBank to market it further, with others getting their share for promoting your product. With eBooks – you hardly need to pay a dime – and quite simply, it’s profits all the way, so with an eBook that is actually full of partially valuable information, you can’t go wrong as well.
